Exceptionally compared to the usual periodicity, the Candidate List has been updated and now has 242 entries
On 7 November 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published an update of the Candidate List. The SVHC-CL ( Substances of Very High Concern ) candidates for inclusion in Annex XIV of the REACH Regulation are currently 242.
The update in fact involved the addition of only one substance, below is the list of its identity:
Substance | CAS/EC | Reason for inclusion | Main uses |
Triphenyl phosphate | 115-86-6 204-112-2 | Endocrine disruptor (art. 57(f)) | This substance is used as a flame retardant and plasticizer in polymer, adhesive and sealant formulations. |
Please note that the inclusion of the substance in the Candidate List does not prohibit its use as a substance, in mixtures or in articles. However, if an article contains a SVHC-CL in concentrations above 0.1% w/w, suppliers must comply with the communication obligations set out in Article 33(1) of the REACH Regulation and the SCIP notification obligation.
Furthermore, suppliers of SVHC-CL substances as such or in mixtures placed on the market in the European territory must update the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) that they provide to their customers.
It is therefore important to verify whether the new update of the Candidate List has an impact on the products marketed, collaborating with suppliers and involving them in the analysis of the products, in order to better manage the compliance obligations provided for by the REACH Regulation, including the updating of declarations, SDS and notifications previously sent, as well as the relevant communications to customers.
